African food tasting

Lesson: Geography

Class: Year 2 Year: 2018 - 2019

Y2 have really enjoyed their topic on Africa and completed their unit with an exciting afternoon of cooking and food tasting.  The children used maps to identify where different foods were from and helped to prepare ingredients to make asida (a warm bread dough flavoured with honey) and egusi soup (a spicy soup thickened with melon seeds).  The children then had a variety of other foods to taste such as dried fruits and baba ganoush.  Lots of mixed reactions to some of the unusual tasting dishes but everyone had a taste and decided if they liked it or not.
