Lesson: Learning Outside the Classroom

Class: Year 2 Year: 2017 - 2018

In science Y2 have been learning about materials and their uses. As we trudged outside in the rain, we discussed what we could do to help us to keep dry and what materials would be needed.  Lots of children thought it would be a good idea to make shelters and explained how we could use logs in a teepee shape.  I showed them how to make a ridge shelter using tarpauling and tent pegs.  All of the children worked together and had different ideas.  Some decided to make a natural shelter using leaves as a water proof covering, others used the tarps to create ridge shelters and we also had a mixed shelter using some natural materials covered with a waterproof tarp.  The rain certainly didn't stop us  problem solving, helping each other and learning new skills.
