Year Five:

Year Five is very special this year.  We have the luxury of three teachers throughout the week, Mr Yearsley, Miss Moon and Miss Jenkinson.  Mrs Dews, Mrs Jackson and Mrs Evans will also be working with our children on a regular basis.

The class is split up into Literacy, Mathematics and Foundation classes to suit the children's learning styles and needs.  These classes are based on teacher observations and regular assessments to keep classes fresh, current and perfectly suited to everyones needs.

Learning Environment:

Year Five has two main classrooms and one large learning space at the top of the Junior Corridor.  Children's learning environment suits the way they learn most effectively, small adult led groups, discussion groupings, independent learning and questioning, interactive class participation and many more.  Each learning space has an array of interactive displays and cues to help the chidlren access resources at any time they need them, e.g. problem solving cards, dictionaris, connectives walls, grammar links. Not to mention the wall displays in each area offer strategies and clues that children can use in lessons.

English and Maths:

English and Maths are taught daily and are often incorporated into other lessons. TMathematics and English are often taught hrough open edended questioing to really get teh children thinking, its not always a yes/no answer and a class discssion as to reasoing and choosng answers often leads t greater understanding.  The activities we complete range from practical to written and they are always differentiated to cater for the different learning needs of the children.  This is why you will find children talking about different members of staff leading their lessons, teaching styles and learning styles are always being considered to ensure children's needs are met.  Our English lessons are taught around a book, please see our attached curriculum plan to find the book we will be studying this half term. We use the text to explore grammatical features and to provide us with inspiration for exploring and writing different text types.

We learn about lots of exciting topics through the Learning Challenge Curriculum, we will be carrying out lots of hands on activities, research, interviews, trips etc.... to help us understand more about each area. Our Year Five curriculum plan will give you a clear indication of what topics we will be studying at various points in the year.  If you think you can provide resources or information or know someone who is an expert in that field, please feel free to let us know.  Any help will be gratefully received.
