Trip to Liverpool World Museum - Stone Age to Iron Age work shop.

Lesson: History

Class: Year 3 Year: 2022 - 2023

The children had a wonderful time exploring the Liverpool World Museum.  They were able to have hands on experience becoming historians, in a workshop, discovering all about the Stone Age to Iron Age.  This helped the children recall all their knowledge about this topic, the children demonstrated how they were able to recall their key knowledge they had learnt in the Autumn.  The children explored each of the tables in their groups. Looking for clues; reading the facts about the different periods; putting them into chronology order; matching the labels to the artefacts; discovering how they worked and trying on some of the clothes and armour.

This workshop helped the children visualise what they had learnt about these time periods and discovered lots more.  Year 3 were able to see the modern crops and compare them to the original crops and how they differed. They also looked at the different tools and how they were made. Some of the children remembered how lots of the things we have today, like combs, bowls, cooking utensils, clothes, socks, shoes and lots more they also had in these time periods but not technology.  Some of the items looked similar to what the children had seen at home and some of the items completely different, like the comb.  This was a wonderful, hands on, learning experience.
