Lesson: Literacy

Class: Year 3 Year: 2017 - 2018

Year three have submerged themselves in their class text ‘The Butterfly Lion’ written by Michael Morpurgo. The children have really been inspired by Morpurgo’s description of South African velds and wildlife. Enthused by our texts rich vocabulary and tales of Timbavati wonders, it’s no surprise our children wanted to research the facts behind our story. With the help from their families, the children have developed explanation texts about White Lions to share with the rest of the class – I think it’s safe to say we’ve all become mini Lion Experts. True mastery in the making!

The text also prompted a moral dilemma: ‘Was it the right decision to give the White Lion to the circus?’ The children created a conscience ally to display a balanced argument, which will inspire our writing further.
