Hunter Gatherers

Class: Year 3 Year: 2022 - 2023

In Year 3, the children discovered what it was like to be a hunter gatherer in the Stone Age times. We looked at a timeline and the children were astonished how long ago it was. We talked a little about the life of early man and later about Stone Age people, the children learnt about the term Hunter Gatherers and what it meant. They learned that the Stone Age people used their environment and surroundings to help them to survive by hunting animals and gathering what they could find. They also learnt that they made lots of different tools.

As a class we went out into our surrounding area and collected lots of different items, then we brought them back to class and set about making tools. The children soon discovered that this was really tricky, and that Stone Age people were very resourceful and skilful. Here are a few photos to show you want we did and what the children made. (Though we know the Stone Age people didn't have string - we decided to use string to help us make the tools... but it was still tricky!)
