Y3 leave their legacy for Garswood Primary

Lesson: Understanding the World

Class: Year 3 Year: 2017 - 2018

We have plans to extend our woodland area under our long term site management plan. We have to take into account what impact we have as humans on our Forest School Area. We simply cannot keep using the natural resources without replacing it. Today Y3 learnt the importance of sustainability and planted +100 new saplings (infant trees). The children needed to think carefully about the position of the new trees, the breed of tree and what impact it will have on our woodland in the future.

We planned Hazel to harvest sustainable fire wood. We planned Rowan trees to harvest sustainable berries for our art work. We planted Elder for sustainable berries and decorative bark, plus many more trees were planted for different uses and purposes.

Thank you again to our wonderful volunteers who come to help our children’s knowledge and understanding grow deeper each week.
