Owl pellet dissection investigation
Lesson: Science
Class: Year 2 Year: 2017 - 2018
Y2 have enjoyed learning about food chains in science and had the opportunity today to find out for themselves what an owl eats. They carried out an 'owl pellet dissection investigation' and used tooth picks and tweezers to pick apart an owl pellet. They learnt that owls cannot digest the hard parts of their prey and instead bones, teeth and claws are packed into a pellet and then regurgitated. They used a bone chart to identify the bones they had found in the pellet and were able to identify rodents and shrews.
