It's not just about the school day
It’s not just about the school day!
Once again, we have a superb offer of extra-curricular opportunities for our children and I’m so pleased to see our children taking full advantage of this offer.
The current timetable of opportunities can be found on the link below. We have cookery, dancing, rugby, book club, music, singing, football and even a craft club. These will change as the year progresses and we offer even more opportunities. This will include: lego; fencing; morris dancing; science club and many more – all informed by the children’s responses to the survey.
We now also have a lunchtime football club to now be offered on two days – Wednesdays and Thursdays. Freedom Football are our partners who provide this superb opportunity for our children at lunchtime.
In addition to the wider offer, our children also take on lots of responsibilities around the school. A new addition this year is our ‘Spread the Happiness’ ambassadors. These pupils will be working with Mrs Dodd on initiatives around the school. Watch this space!
Activities and events
Thank you to everyone who engaged with our Reading Event. We will be announcing the winners (as chosen by our English team of children) It’s been lovely to read some of the book reviews and to see the children’s character models. What amazing effort from all involved and super to see children trying hard to 'be ambitious'.
Thank you also for the Harvest food donations received in school. They have now been forwarded to the St Helens foodbank. We spoke with the children about harvest and sharing with others in line with our core value to be kind. In assembly, we had been looking at Aesop’s Fables and we drew parallels with the “Goose that laid the Golden Egg” – the children were super at seeing the moral message and the importance of sharing with others. We always try to 'be kind'.
Thank you to those parents who have attended our SEND coffee morning. It is a lovely opportunity to share expertise and to advise and support each other. Mrs Myatt, our SENCO has a Thursday out of class and if you do wish to speak with her at any point then do get in touch. If you didn’t make it to the coffee morning this time then perhaps you can come along in the future.
Trips and visitors
We take the opportunity when we can to get out into the community and bring the community in to us. This helps with our learning and gives us deeper opportunities to embed our learning and live out the school value to 'be respectful' to everyone - we meet new people and visit new places.
In science, the children learn about plants, living things and habitats. On Monday, Reception will be heading to the fields in a local farm to take part in their own pumpkin picking adventure. Y1 had a wonderful experience recently at Haigh Hall – albeit a bit wet! They have embedded their key science knowledge, and all can talk about the deciduous and evergreen trees. Y2 have visited Martin Mere when they build on their Y1 knowledge, learning about living things, habitats and microhabitats.
In history, Y3 have had an exciting visit from an archaeologist who has helped our children to understand not just the information about the Stone Age but also how we learn about the past. They have also been out to visit a Methodist Church as part of their Religious Education, learning about Christian beliefs and values.
Thank you for helping us bring our curriculum to life. We have many more adventures to come this year. School is a great place to be.
