Moving on
Today we celebrated the life and times of Barbara Moore.
Barbara has working at Garswood Primary School for 34 years - initially as a midday supervisor and later as a cleaner.
A well loved member of the team, it was important she had a good send off. Governors joined us and members of staff from years gone - to give her a great surprise. Familiar faces included Mrs Thompson and Mrs Murphy (from the Office), Mrs Sterritt and Mrs Baker (past teachers), Mr Spooner and Mr Baker (past caretakers), and Mrs Traynor and Miss Ebbral (past TAs).
Children from each class performed poems, songs and sketches. The assembly started with Reception and their adapted version of one of Mrs Moore's favourite songs, "Chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep" . Their new lyrics "Where's your hoover gone?...; Where's your duster gone?" made Mrs Moore smile.
Y1 children spoke of what they'd miss about Mrs Moore, especially how she's looked after their classroom, whilst Y2 thanked her in song for looking after all of the animals (especially their ducklings). Y3 and Y4 took a humorous look at Mrs Moore's pet hates - forest school (mud!) and glitter! We had some Oscar winning performances of Mrs Moore herself!
Y5/6 performed a beautiful rendition of "Bridge over Troubled Water" - another of Mrs Moore's favourite songs. Following this Y5 pointed out all the possibilities ahead in enjoying a relaxing retirement and Y6 ended on a final goodbye poem.
The children were amazing and it was a wonderful send off after 34 years of dedicated service.
