World Book Day (and night!)
The day before the big event we talked in our assembly about World Book Day. We were keen to discuss how we should recommend books to our friends. We know the benefit of reading and how this links with our school value to 'be ambitious'.
Our Y6 children popped along to infant classes to read stories with them and it was wonderful to see everyone engaging on World Book Day - dressing in costumes or in PJs, ready for a bedtime story.
In nursery there were familiar adults popping in to share stories and across the infants we all took part in a book snuggle. It was also a chance for some of our grown ups to enjoy a school story time.
Our juniors were invited back wearing their fancy dress or PJs, for a book themed evening where they experienced an array of activities to broaden vocubulary; inspire interest and motivate them to engage with different books. These included;
• Bug and reptiles – live! Enjoying their own ‘Creepy Crawly Calypso!’ and even meet a character from Charlotte's Web
• Owls and falcon – live! Will these owls be afraid of the dark?
• Be part of a Scavenger Hunt and find the books around the school to solve the puzzle
• Take part in a game of ‘Harry Potter’ style Quidditch
• Try out some ‘Rooftoppers’ parkour
• Make bookmarks
• Make a BFG dream jar
• Attend Alice in Wonderland’s tea-party
• Enjoy eating marmalade sandwiches and making bear origami - Paddington style
• Taste the delights of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ Sweets
