Marvellous mud huts

Lesson: Geography

Class: Year 2 Year: 2015 - 2016

Y2 have really enjoyed learning about Africa.  The children have researched African animals; located African countries on maps; read traditional African stories and found out about clothing, food and houses.  This week Y2 have used clay to make traditional African mud huts (Enkaji). The children thought carefully about the best way to make the shape - most decided to roll the clay into sausages and shape these to make the round hut.  Card was used to make a cone shape for the roof which was covered in straw.  The finished huts are very realistic and will be made into an African village after the half term break.  Y2 have also been busy at home researching their chosen African country.  Their projects have been put on display in the classroom.
