Paul Delaney Poetry writing workshop

Lesson: English

Class: Year 3 Year: 2023 - 2024

Paul Delaney visited Year 3 to inspire the children to write their own poems. The children listened to how Mr Delaney became a poet and how he was a teacher for many years. Year 3 were fascinated and wanted to ask Paul lots of questions about his poems, most of the children remembered him from Year 2.  Paul Delaney then read a poem to the children and as a whole class they thought of how to write their own poem inspired by Paul.  After that, the children excitedly set off writing their own poems using exciting adjectives.  All the children’s poems were very imaginative and fun. They then all performed their poems one by one, a wonderful end to the workshop.

Also, as part of the workshop Mr Delaney then choose a child to represent the class at a special poetry reading event in St Helens. It was such a difficult discussion that 2 children were chosen to read their poems at this special event and another child was chosen to have their poem published.  How exciting! Well done to all our talented, performing, poetry readers.
