Reasoning in mathematics

Class: Year 5 Year: 2016 - 2017

We discussed areas in mathematics we are trying to get better at over the spring term and, as a class, we agreed that our explanation skills could do with some work. We are trying to adapt our language from “I just knew it,”, “I worked it out in my head” to a step by step approach to explaining our thought process.

We worked in mixed ability groups to explain and adapt our thinking to some word problems that involve more than one part of mathematics. The results are below…
