Rec & Y1 transition with a twist...Forest School style!
Lesson: Understanding the World
Class: Year 1 Year: 2016 - 2017
This afternoon, Reception joined Y1 in their Forest School session. Y1 treated their younger peers with great empathy and respect as they taught them about: Forest School routines, the art of casting shadows using their nocturnal animal puppets, making nests for the Owl Babies, gathering dead wood as fuel for the fire, as well as climbing trees and making natural shelters. The afternoon was finished off with campfire and marshmallows. A lot of new friendships formed and new/old skills being reinforced through the wonder of nature.
Y1 waved goodbye to Reception to complete a science experiment 'what are the three forms of water?' The children made predictions as to what would happen to the solid form of water when held and heated. The children found out that gas is the third form of water and watched intently as the liquid transformed in to gas.
