Year 4's sight-seeing tour of Liverpool
Lesson: Geography
Class: Year 4 Year: 2017 - 2018
Today Year 4 took part in an off-site visit to find out about the city of Liverpool. We wanted to discover the physical features of Liverpool and to find out what makes it a fantastic city. We have already looked at features of cities whilst researching Tallinn, Estonia and will later compare the two cities.
Tallinn has an award winning modern Art gallery and so our adventure began at The Walker Art Gallery. We studied many pieces of art and discussed: What stories we could tell from the piece? What our opinions are on the piece? We then sketched some of our favourite pieces. Some of our favourites included Lego Art, inspired by Damien Hirst, by the Little Artists and a beautiful peacock sculpture by Paul Comolera. .
In art, we have been drawing figures and their reflections so we were also on the lookout for art that had reflective features. We found a beautiful piece by John William Waterhouse, Echo and Narcissus.
We had time to visit the aquarium at The World Museum, to again look at reflective properties and the movement of water. It was a good insight into our next Science topic, food chains, when it was feeding time in one of the tanks.
After lunch we set off on the open top bus for a spot of sight-seeing. The tour delivered an audio description, detailing the names of certain buildings and features and discussing the history behind certain buildings and monuments. A fantastic first-hand account to begin our geography and history topic on Liverpool.
Finally, we conducted our own surveys to find out opinions and facts about Liverpool.
